Sharing the Wonders of Fukui through Social Media

Student M, Third YearRegional Promotion

March 2021

In our project, we used videos to address challenges faced in the local area.

Following reading-based research and interviews, we created videos promoting tourism in Fukui and posted them to YouTube.

In our third year, we had the opportunity to work with Fukui City’s Shinkansen and Fukui City Promotion Division, and twelve students from Kyoritsu Women’s University in Tokyo. We started making videos promoting Fukui to tie in with the extension of the Hokuriku Shinkansen line through the prefecture.

For this aspect of the project, we held several online discussions about what makes Fukui appealing from the perspective of students living in and around Tokyo. We then took the places identified through these sessions and divided them into themed groups, and made videos about them.

The videos we created were posted to social media, including YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter.

This project enabled us to see Fukui through the eyes of Tokyo-based students, giving us a new appreciation for the wonders the prefecture has to offer.

Another factor that motivated us to make videos that could share Fukui’s story with as many people as possible was the fact that, at the outset of the project, many of the students from Tokyo knew nothing about the area.

Beyond that, we were also able to find solutions to the unique challenges posed by COVID-19, including making use of online communication.

We would like to thank everyone who helped us to make this project possible, and we look forward to doing more similar work in future.
