From to an Idea to a Product on Store Shelves!

Student H, Third Year, Team HProduct Development

February 2019

We were lucky enough to work with a group that aims to create new products for tourists visiting Ono City, bringing together people from local food-related industries to develop new ideas, with young women as a key target demographic.
In our mission to come up with new products, we held interviews at local souvenir stores. We also invited first- and second-year students from the School of Global and Community Studies to sample some initial ideas at a tasting session, and did a survey to gather their thoughts.

In the end, the Shoyu Katsu Burger put forward by student S was developed into a real product, and went on sale at Heisei Onoya and Panaderia. Seeing one of our ideas actually on store shelves was exhilarating. We also got a deeper insight into the challenges faced by people creating new products for tourists visiting Ono.

We’re extremely grateful to everyone in Ono’s food industry for all their help! If you see one of our Shoyu Katsu Burgers on your travels, be sure to give it a try!
